Pearl Care
Freshwater pearls are timeless and elegant, with a natural lustre that makes them truly special. Because they’re an organic gem, they’re a little more delicate than metals and stones, so with the right care, you can preserve their beauty for years to come.
Everyday Care
- Pearls are best kept dry. Always remove them before swimming, showering, exercising, or household tasks that involve water or cleaning products.
- After each wear, gently wipe them with a soft, dry jewellery cloth to remove any natural oils or residues.
Avoiding Damage
- Pearls are sensitive to chemicals, so keep them away from perfumes, hairsprays, lotions, and sunscreens - these can dull their shine and even damage their surface.
- Perspiration can also affect pearls, so if you’ve worn them on a warm day, be sure to give them a gentle wipe afterwards.
- Never use harsh cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, or abrasive cloths, as these can scratch or erode the nacre (the delicate surface layer of the pearl).
Storage
- Store pearls separately from other jewellery to avoid scratching - a soft pouch or lined jewellery box is ideal.
- Because pearls need a little airflow and natural moisture to stay in good condition, avoid airtight plastic bags or containers that may cause them to dry out.
Longevity
- Pearls are made to be worn and loved - with regular gentle care, they’ll keep their soft glow.
- Over time, their natural character may subtly change, which is part of their organic beauty and charm.
